Cook Out Sauces — Dipping Sauce List, Calories & What Cook Out Sauce Is (2026)

Cook Out’s dipping sauces come with chicken strips and nuggets, and one Cook Out store menu lists five of them: Cook Out Sauce, BBQ, honey mustard, Polynesian and ranch. Cook Out’s nutrition sheet does not cover dipping sauces, so the calories on this page are approximate: about 60 for a cup of BBQ or honey mustard and about 140 for ranch.

Dipping sauces vary by store. Approximate 1 oz cups: honey mustard ~60 cal, BBQ ~60 cal, ranch ~140 cal. Cook Out Sauce and Polynesian: no published nutrition or recipe. Not included in strip or nugget calories.

Quick Answer

What Sauces Does Cook Out Have?

Cook Out’s dipping sauces are Cook Out Sauce, BBQ, honey mustard, Polynesian and ranch, according to the chicken strip listing on one Cook Out store menu; the lineup can differ from store to store. An older Cook Out menu listing for chicken nuggets names ranch, BBQ, honey mustard and sweet and sour instead, so ask which cups your location carries.

Dipping sauces at Cook Out go with the two breaded chicken items. Cook Out store menus describe the three-piece Homemade Style Chicken Strips as served with a choice of sauce, and a Spartanburg, SC listing says the nuggets come with ranch, BBQ, honey mustard or sweet and sour. You name the sauce when you order; it is not a separate menu section the way burgers and shakes are.

Cook Out also uses sauces inside its sandwiches and wraps, and those are already counted in the official calories for each item:

  • BBQ sauce on the Barbeque Style char-grilled chicken sandwich (with pickles and mayo) and in the Out West burger style (with bacon, mayo, pickles and onions).
  • Honey mustard on the Original Style chicken sandwich, the Chicken Strip Sandwich and the Honey Mustard Wrap.
  • Ranch in the Ranch Chicken Wrap.
  • A1 sauce in the Steak burger style (with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo).
  • Texas Pete hot sauce on the BBQ sandwich, and on the Cajun Wrap in at least one store listing.
  • Mustard, ketchup and mayo as standard condiments, plus chili and slaw on Cook Out Style burgers and hot dogs.

Sauces are available at the roughly 370 Cook Out restaurants in 11 states on Cook Out’s store locator in October 2026. Most stores open around 10:30 AM and stay open until about 3 AM Sunday through Thursday and 4 AM Friday and Saturday; hours vary by store, so check the Cook Out hours guide.

The House Sauce

What Is Cook Out Sauce?

Cook Out Sauce is the chain’s own house dipping sauce, offered with chicken strips on at least one Cook Out store menu, but Cook Out does not publish its recipe, ingredients or nutrition. We could not find a reliable source describing what is in it, so we are not going to guess.

What we can confirm is narrow. A Cook Out store menu listing on SinglePlatform names “Cook Out Sauce” first in the sauce choices for Homemade Style Chicken Strips, ahead of BBQ, honey mustard, Polynesian and ranch. It does not appear on Cook Out’s nutrition sheet, which lists no dipping sauces at all, and it does not appear in the older nugget listing we checked. That suggests it is not on every menu board at every store, or that it was added after older listings were written.

Plenty of copycat recipes online use the name “cookout sauce” for a generic burger or backyard-grilling sauce. Those recipes are not from Cook Out the restaurant chain, and you should not read their ingredients or calorie counts as Cook Out’s.

How to find out what it tastes like

  • Ask at the speaker whether your store has Cook Out Sauce before you build your order around it.
  • Try it as your strip sauce. Three strips come with a choice of sauce, so picking Cook Out Sauce for one order is the lowest-risk way to taste it.
  • Ask about ingredients if you have an allergy. With no published ingredient list, the store manager is the only reliable source; see the Cook Out allergen guide.
  • Count it as unknown if you track calories. We do not publish an estimate because there is no source to base one on.

Polynesian sauce is in the same position: it is on the same store’s sauce list, but we found no Cook Out nutrition or ingredient data for it. At other chains, sauces sold under the Polynesian name are usually sweet and tangy, but Cook Out has not said what its version contains.

Approximate Nutrition

How Many Calories Are in Cook Out Sauces?

A 1 oz cup of Cook Out BBQ or honey mustard sauce has about 60 calories and a cup of ranch has about 140, based on third-party nutrition listings. These are approximate figures: Cook Out’s official nutrition sheet does not list dipping sauces, and Cook Out Sauce and Polynesian have no published numbers anywhere we could verify.

SauceServingCaloriesFatSat. fatCarbsSugarSodiumData status

All values in this table are approximate third-party figures for a 1 oz (28 g) cup, not numbers published by Cook Out. Cup sizes can differ by store, and a heavier pour changes everything proportionally.

How much of your day is a sauce cup?

Against the FDA Daily Values used on U.S. nutrition labels (78 g fat, 20 g saturated fat, 2,300 mg sodium, 275 g carbohydrate), one approximate cup works out to:

SauceFat % DVSat. fat % DVSodium % DVCarbs % DV
Honey mustard~5%~0%~5%~2%
BBQ~0%~0%~8%~5%
Ranch~19%~10%~10%~1%
  • Ranch is the heavy one. About 15 g of fat at 9 calories per gram is about 135 calories, so nearly all of ranch’s ~140 calories come from fat.
  • BBQ is fat-free but sugary. About 11 of its ~14 g of carbohydrate is sugar, the most of the three.
  • Honey mustard sits in the middle: ~60 calories like BBQ, with about 4 g of fat and 5 g of sugar.
  • Sodium is moderate per cup (~120 to ~230 mg), but it lands on top of items that are already salty; three strips alone carry 2,130 mg.

One cup of each of the three adds up to about 260 calories, 19 g of fat, 17 g of sugar and 530 mg of sodium, which is roughly the calories of a full order of nuggets (240). For whole-menu numbers, see the Cook Out nutrition guide.

Sauce Math

How Much Does a Sauce Add to Cook Out Strips and Nuggets?

A BBQ or honey mustard cup adds about 60 calories to strips or nuggets and ranch adds about 140, because Cook Out’s official strip and nugget calories do not include sauce. On a small portion like a nugget side, the sauce can be close to half the calories.

The table adds the approximate sauce figures to Cook Out’s official nutrition for each chicken item. Each cell shows calories / sodium after one 1 oz cup.

Item (official calories, no sauce)+ honey mustard+ BBQ+ ranchWhat it means
Chicken nuggets, full order (240 cal)~300 / ~660 mg~300 / ~720 mg~380 / ~770 mgSauce is ~20% of the total with BBQ or honey mustard, ~37% with ranch
Chicken nuggets, tray side (144 cal)~204 / ~444 mg~204 / ~504 mg~284 / ~554 mgRanch nearly doubles a nugget side
Chicken strips, 3 pc (660 cal)~720 / ~2,250 mg~720 / ~2,310 mg~800 / ~2,360 mgAny cup puts three strips near or over the 2,300 mg Daily Value

Official item figures: nuggets full order 240 calories and 540 mg sodium; tray side 144 calories and 324 mg; three strips 660 calories and 2,130 mg. Sauce figures are approximate.

  • The smaller the item, the more the sauce matters. On a 144-calorie nugget side, ranch takes the total to about 284, so ranch is about 49% of what you eat. On three strips the same cup is about 18%.
  • Two cups of ranch add about 280 calories and 30 g of fat, pushing three strips to roughly 940 calories.
  • Splitting sauces is the easiest trim: a full order of nuggets with one BBQ cup and one honey mustard cup is about 360 calories, 80 fewer than with two ranch cups (~520).
  • Sodium stacks fastest on strips. Three strips plus any one cup come to roughly 2,250 to 2,360 mg, at or above the full-day Daily Value before sides or a drink.

For the full strip and nugget breakdowns, see the Cook Out chicken strips guide and the Cook Out chicken nuggets guide.

Tray Builds

How Do Sauces Change a Cook Out Tray?

On a typical chicken tray, one sauce cup adds roughly 6% to 22% to the calorie total depending on the sauce and the tray: about 60 calories for BBQ or honey mustard and about 140 for ranch. The tray itself (one entree, two sides and a drink) usually costs about $7.39 to $7.99.

TrayWhat you order (official calories)No sauce+ honey mustard+ BBQ+ ranch
Char-grilled chicken trayChar-grilled chicken sandwich (377) + nuggets (144) + onion rings (128) + regular unsweet tea (0)649~709~709~789
Nugget snack trayNuggets, full order (240) + onion rings (128) + regular unsweet tea (0)368~428~428~508
Strip tray3 strips (660) + nuggets (144) + onion rings (128) + regular unsweet tea (0)932~992~992~1,072

The “No sauce” column adds Cook Out’s official figures item by item; drinks are regular 16 oz sizes. Sauce columns add the approximate cup values. On the 649-calorie chicken tray, a honey mustard or BBQ cup is a 9% increase and ranch is 22%; on the 932-calorie strip tray, they are 6% and 15%.

Sodium on the same trays

Sodium moves less in percentage terms but matters more, because the base trays already start high:

TrayNo sauce+ honey mustard+ BBQ+ ranch
Char-grilled chicken tray1,228 mg~1,348 mg~1,408 mg~1,458 mg
Nugget snack tray869 mg~989 mg~1,049 mg~1,099 mg
Strip tray2,783 mg~2,903 mg~2,963 mg~3,013 mg
  • The drink outweighs the sauce. A regular sweet tea adds 236 calories, more than a ranch cup; a regular Cheerwine adds 144. Unsweet tea, Diet Coke and Coke Zero Sugar add none. See the Cook Out drinks menu.
  • Pick the sauce to match the side. Onion rings and nuggets are the lightest tray sides (128 and 144 calories), so a light sauce keeps the whole tray lean.
  • Want the lowest-calorie sauced tray? Of the builds here, the nugget snack tray with BBQ or honey mustard is about 428 calories.

Build your own version in the Cook Out calorie calculator, then add the sauce cup by hand using the approximate numbers above. The tray menu guide explains every entree and side.

Built-In Sauces

Which Cook Out Menu Items Already Come With Sauce?

The Original Style and Barbeque Style chicken sandwiches, the three chicken wraps, the Chicken Strip Sandwich, the Out West and Steak burger styles and the BBQ sandwich all come with a sauce, and Cook Out’s official calories for those items already include it. You do not need to add a sauce cup to those numbers.

Calories and sodium are from Cook Out’s nutrition sheet; toppings are from Cook Out store menu listings. The differences in the last column are simple subtraction.

  • Sauce on a sandwich is cheap in calories. Adding honey mustard, lettuce, tomato and mayo to the char-grilled breast (Original Style) costs only 16 calories in the official data, and Barbeque Style lands within one calorie of the plain sandwich. The visible cost is sodium: Barbeque Style carries 139 mg more than plain.
  • The wraps differ by sauce only slightly. All three chicken wraps have 25 g of protein; ranch is the heaviest by 21 calories, and Cajun is lightest at 501. See the strips guide for how wraps compare with strips.
  • Burger styles carry the big sauce calories. Out West adds 202 calories as a whole topping package (BBQ sauce, bacon, mayo, pickles, onions); Steak Style adds 91. The burger menu guide covers every style.

Cook Out does not break out how many of those calories come from the sauce itself versus the other toppings, so treat the sauce share of each item as unknown.

Ordering Guide

How Do You Get Extra Sauce at Cook Out?

Name your sauce when you order strips or nuggets, and ask at the speaker for any extra cup; whether an extra cup costs more is up to each store. Check the bag for your cups before you pull away from the window.

Three strips come with a choice of sauce, and nugget listings name one sauce with the order. A sauced order sounds like: “Cookout Tray, chicken strips with honey mustard, nuggets with BBQ and onion rings, regular unsweet tea.” If you want two different sauces for strips, say so up front.

First-timer tip: Ask which sauces your store has before you choose. One store lists Cook Out Sauce, BBQ, honey mustard, Polynesian and ranch; an older listing shows sweet and sour instead of the last two, so the board in front of you is what counts.
  • Cookout Tray (entree + 2 sides + drink): about $7.39–$7.99
  • Jr. Tray: from about $5.29
  • Sauce with strips or nuggets: one cup listed with the order
  • Extra sauce cups: set by each store; ask at the speaker

Sauce tips that actually help

  • Order sauce at the speaker, not the window. It is faster for the crew and less likely to be forgotten.
  • Ask for sauce on the side for sandwiches if you want control; Cook Out sandwiches can usually be ordered with toppings left off, and skipping mayo is an easy trim. Official calories are for the standard build.
  • Use BBQ on more than chicken. A BBQ cup works as a dip for fries, onion rings or Cook Out Rounds; see the sides menu.
  • Delivery orders: sauce cups are the item most often missing from a bag; add a note and check on arrival. More in the Cook Out delivery guide.
  • Custom orders: the Cook Out secret menu guide has ideas for swapping sauces between items.
Diet & Allergens

Are Cook Out Sauces Gluten-Free, Vegan or Keto-Friendly?

Cook Out does not publish ingredient or allergen information for its dipping sauces, so none of them can be confirmed gluten-free, vegan or allergen-free. The only reliable answer comes from the store manager or the packaging behind the counter.

  • Egg: ranch and honey mustard sauces are commonly made with egg-based mayonnaise or egg yolk. Assume they may contain egg unless your store confirms otherwise.
  • Milk: ranch dressings usually include buttermilk or other dairy ingredients.
  • Gluten and wheat: some BBQ and sweet sauces use thickeners or malt vinegar; without an ingredient list, people with celiac disease should ask. Our Cook Out allergen guide covers how to ask.
  • Vegan: BBQ sauce is often plant-based, but this is not confirmed for Cook Out. See the Cook Out vegan menu guide.
  • Low-carb and keto: ranch is the low-carb choice at about 2 g of carbohydrate per cup; BBQ is the highest at about 14 g with about 11 g of sugar (approximate figures).
  • Low-fat: BBQ at about 0 g of fat is the pick; ranch is about 15 g.
  • Sodium-restricted: honey mustard is the lowest of the three at about 120 mg per cup.

Because the house Cook Out Sauce and the Polynesian sauce have no published data at all, treat them as unknown for every diet and allergy question.

Questions Answered

Cook Out Sauces FAQs

Answers to the questions people ask most.

What dipping sauces does Cook Out have?

One Cook Out store menu lists five sauces for chicken strips: Cook Out Sauce, BBQ, honey mustard, Polynesian and ranch. An older nugget listing from a Spartanburg, SC store names ranch, BBQ, honey mustard and sweet and sour. The lineup varies by store, so ask at the speaker which sauces your location carries before you order.

What is in Cook Out Sauce?

Cook Out does not publish the recipe, ingredients or nutrition for its house Cook Out Sauce, and we could not find a reliable source that describes it. Copycat recipes online that use the name are not from the restaurant chain. If you have an allergy, ask the store manager before ordering it.

How many calories are in Cook Out sauce?

Approximate third-party figures for a 1 oz cup are about 60 calories for BBQ, about 60 for honey mustard and about 140 for ranch. Cook Out’s own nutrition sheet does not list dipping sauces, and there are no published figures for Cook Out Sauce or Polynesian, so treat any number as an estimate.

Does Cook Out have Polynesian sauce?

At least one Cook Out store menu lists Polynesian among the sauce choices for chicken strips, alongside Cook Out Sauce, BBQ, honey mustard and ranch. It is not on every listing we checked, and Cook Out publishes no nutrition or ingredients for it, so confirm at your store before ordering.

Which Cook Out sauce is lowest in calories?

BBQ and honey mustard are tied at about 60 calories per 1 oz cup, less than half of ranch at about 140. BBQ has almost no fat but about 11 g of sugar; honey mustard has about 4 g of fat and 5 g of sugar. All three figures are approximate third-party values.

Do Cook Out chicken strips come with sauce?

Yes. Cook Out store menus list three Homemade Style Chicken Strips as served with a choice of sauce. Cook Out’s official 660-calorie figure for three strips does not include the sauce, so add about 60 calories for BBQ or honey mustard or about 140 for ranch.

Can you get extra sauce at Cook Out?

Yes, you can ask for an extra cup at the speaker. Whether it costs extra is set by each store, so ask when you order. Each additional cup of ranch adds about 140 calories and 15 g of fat; BBQ or honey mustard adds about 60 calories (approximate figures).

Is Cook Out BBQ sauce the same as on the BBQ sandwich?

Cook Out does not say. Store listings describe the BBQ sandwich as chopped pork with homemade slaw and Texas Pete, without naming a BBQ sauce, while BBQ sauce is listed on the Barbeque Style chicken sandwich and the Out West burger style. Ask your store if you want the dipping sauce on your sandwich.
