Road Guide

How Do I Get to Cook Out Albemarle From US-52 or NC 24/27?

Use the US-52 interchange with NC 24/27/73 on Albemarle’s southeast side, then follow Spaulding Street to Leonard Ave. The store is on the commercial strip that runs between that interchange and East Main Street.

Albemarle is a crossroads town. US-52 runs north–south through Stanly County, linking Salisbury and I-85 to the north with Norwood and Wadesboro to the south. NC 24/27 is the east–west route, running from Charlotte and Concord through Locust and Albemarle and then east over Lake Tillery toward Troy and Biscoe. NC 73 shares the road with NC 24/27 through town, and NC 740 runs north to Badin.

Coming from each direction

  • From Charlotte, Mint Hill or Locust (NC 24/27 east): stay on NC 24/27 into Albemarle; the Leonard Ave strip is on the far side of downtown, past the US-52 interchange.
  • From Salisbury, Richfield or Misenheimer (US-52 south): follow US-52 into Albemarle and use the NC 24/27/73 interchange.
  • From Wadesboro or Norwood (US-52 north): US-52 north reaches the same interchange from the south.
  • From Troy, Biscoe or the Uwharries (NC 24/27 west): cross Lake Tillery, enter town on East Main Street, then follow NC 24/27/73 onto Spaulding Street toward Leonard Ave.
  • From Badin (NC 740 south): NC 740 meets East Main Street right where the state routes turn onto Spaulding Street.

If you are passing through on I-85 instead, the Kannapolis, Concord and Salisbury stores are much closer to the interstate than Albemarle.

Local Market

What Is the Cook Out Market Like in Albemarle and Stanly County?

Albemarle is a one-store Cook Out market: a county seat of about 16,000 people with the only store in Stanly County. That makes Leonard Ave the default late-night stop for the whole county and for lake traffic from Badin Lake and Lake Tillery.

1989: Morris Reaves opens the first Cook Out in Greensboro, about an hour north of Albemarle. The chain grows from the Piedmont outward.

Today: Cook Out’s locator lists 144 open North Carolina stores as of October 2026, with Albemarle’s 707 Leonard Ave as Stanly County’s only one.

Coming soon: Cook Out’s locator lists a Biscoe store at 101 Montgomery Crossing (about 23 miles east, Montgomery County) and an east Charlotte store at 10820 Woodland Beaver Rd (about 26 miles west) as coming soon. Neither has a confirmed opening date.

We have not found a reliable public record of the date the Albemarle store opened, so this page does not give one. What is clear is its role: Stanly County sits between the Charlotte suburbs and the Uwharrie Mountains, and most of the county’s small towns funnel into Albemarle along US-52 and NC 24/27 for shopping, the hospital and the community college.

That geography also explains the traffic mix. Weekend visitors to Morrow Mountain State Park, Badin Lake and the Uwharrie National Forest pass through Albemarle, as do drivers cutting between Charlotte and the Sandhills on NC 24/27.
