All five stores are in the northern half of the state or in Tampa Bay. There is no Cook Out in Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers or anywhere else in Central or South Florida yet. For Orlando, the closest store is Temple Terrace, about 80 miles west via I-4.

  • Northeast Florida: 1 store — 14016 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville
  • Tampa Bay: 2 stores — 16215 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, and 5501 E Fowler Ave, Temple Terrace

Where Is Every Cook Out in Florida?

All 5 open Florida stores are listed below in three regions, west to east and then south. Addresses come from the Cook Out store locator (October 2026); each card has a Directions button for Google Maps and a link to that city’s full guide. The coming-soon Tallahassee store is not shown in the cards because it is not open yet.

1. Panhandle — 2 Cook Out locations

The Panhandle has two stores about 195 miles apart on I-10. Pensacola’s store is on East Nine Mile Rd near the University of West Florida, and Tallahassee’s is on North Monroe St (US-27) in a former Hardee’s building between downtown and I-10. A second Tallahassee store, on West Tennessee St, is listed as coming soon.

2. Northeast Florida — 1 Cook Out location

Jacksonville’s only Cook Out is on Beach Blvd east of Hodges Blvd, in the former Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers building, between the Southside and the Beaches. It opened on July 30, 2026, according to News4JAX, and unlike many Cook Outs it has indoor seating.

3. Tampa Bay — 2 Cook Out locations

Tampa Bay has two stores roughly 10 miles apart, both in former Boston Market buildings. Temple Terrace, on East Fowler Ave near the University of South Florida, was Tampa Bay’s first Cook Out and held its grand opening on July 17, 2026. The second is on North Dale Mabry Hwy in Carrollwood, north Tampa.

City List

Which Florida Cities Have a Cook Out?

Five Florida cities have an open Cook Out: Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Tampa and Temple Terrace. Each has exactly one store. Tallahassee is the only Florida city with a second store on the way.

Cities that do not have a Cook Out as of October 2026 include Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Naples, Gainesville, Ocala, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, Panama City, Destin and Key West. If a website lists a Cook Out in one of those cities, check it against Cook Out’s own locator before you drive.

Central & South Florida

Is There a Cook Out in Orlando, Miami or South Florida?

No. As of October 2026 there is no Cook Out in Orlando, Miami or anywhere in South Florida. The southernmost Florida stores are the two in Tampa Bay, so Central and South Florida drivers should head for Temple Terrace or North Dale Mabry Hwy in Tampa.

The table shows the nearest open store for Florida’s biggest cities without a Cook Out. Distances are approximate driving miles to the closest store; traffic on I-4 and I-75 can add a lot of time.

For Orlando in particular, Temple Terrace is the practical choice: take I-4 west toward Tampa, then I-75 north to the Fowler Ave exit and head west. From Miami and Broward County, a Cook Out run is a full-day road trip, so most South Floridians stop in Tampa Bay on the way to somewhere else.

Florida Timeline

Is Cook Out Expanding in Florida?

Yes. All five of Florida’s open Cook Outs opened in 2025 or 2026, and one more, in Tallahassee, is listed as coming soon. The company has not announced any Florida store beyond its locator’s coming-soon list, so this timeline sticks to openings that local news outlets reported.

1989: The first Cook Out opens in Greensboro, North Carolina, founded by Morris Reaves.

May 2024: The Tampa Bay Times reports that Cook Out is coming to Tampa with two locations.

May 2025: Cook Out-Beach Blvd Inc. buys the closed Freddy’s at 14016 Beach Blvd in Jacksonville for $2.75 million, according to the Jax Daily Record.

Summer 2025: Pensacola’s store opens at 1735 E Nine Mile Rd, as reported by the Pensacola News Journal.

November 2025: Tallahassee’s North Monroe St store holds a preview night on November 10 and opens to the public on November 11, according to WTXL ABC 27.

July 16–17, 2026: Tampa Bay’s first Cook Out soft-opens and then celebrates its grand opening at 5501 E Fowler Ave in Temple Terrace, per Creative Loafing Tampa.

July 23, 2026: Axios Tampa Bay reviews the Temple Terrace store, reporting a wait of nearly an hour in the drive-thru line.

July 30, 2026: Jacksonville’s first Cook Out opens on Beach Blvd, with crowds lining up, according to News4JAX.

October 2026: The Cook Out locator shows 5 open Florida stores, including 16215 N Dale Mabry Hwy in Tampa, plus 1828 W Tennessee St in Tallahassee as coming soon.

A clear pattern runs through the Florida openings: Cook Out has been buying closed fast-casual restaurant buildings, including former Boston Market sites in Tampa Bay, a former Hardee’s in Tallahassee and a former Freddy’s in Jacksonville, then converting them into drive-thru stores. The Tallahassee West Tennessee St site, northwest of Florida State University, has no announced opening date. Until Cook Out marks a store as coming soon on its locator, any report of an Orlando or South Florida Cook Out should be treated as unconfirmed.

State Comparison

How Many Cook Outs Are in Each State?

Cook Out operates in 11 states, and Florida’s 5 stores rank ninth. Only West Virginia (4) and Maryland (1) have fewer. The counts below are open stores on the Cook Out locator in October 2026 and do not include coming-soon sites.

Is there a Cook Out just over the Florida line?

Yes, and for some North Florida drivers it is closer than any Florida store. Kingsland, Georgia, at 101 Crown Pointe Pkwy, is about 32 miles from Jacksonville up I-95, and Brunswick, Georgia, at 4950 New Jesup Rd, is about 62 miles. Valdosta, Georgia, at 990 N St Augustine Rd, is the first sizable city north of the state line on I-75 and roughly 80–85 miles from Tallahassee. In the far western Panhandle, Foley, Alabama, at 2550 South McKenzie St, is about 28 miles from the Pensacola store and handy for Perdido Key and Gulf Shores.

Road-Trip Guide

Which Florida Cook Out Is Closest to My Interstate?

Florida’s Cook Outs sit near I-10, I-295 and I-75, so they are easiest to reach on trips across the top of the state or into Tampa Bay. There is no Cook Out on Florida’s Turnpike, I-4 east of Tampa or I-95 south of Jacksonville.

Florida’s long gaps are worth planning around. Between Tallahassee and Tampa Bay there is no Cook Out on I-75 or US-19, and between Jacksonville and Tampa Bay there is none on I-95, I-4 or I-75 through Gainesville and Ocala. Use the Directions button on each store card for the exact turn.

Late-Night Food

Which Florida Colleges and Bases Have a Cook Out Nearby?

Four of Florida’s five Cook Outs are close to a major university, which is a big reason the stores stay open until 3 or 4 AM.

University of South Florida Temple Terrace’s store on East Fowler Ave is a short drive from USF’s Tampa campus, and local coverage of its opening focused on the student crowd.

Florida State, FAMU & TCC North Monroe St is about two miles from FSU’s main campus and three to four miles from FAMU. The coming-soon West Tennessee St store would sit closer to FSU.

University of West Florida The Nine Mile Rd store in Pensacola is about 1.3 miles in a straight line from UWF via University Parkway.

University of North Florida The Beach Blvd store is a few miles from UNF on Jacksonville’s Southside.

MacDill Air Force Base Dale Mabry Hwy runs north from MacDill’s gate; the Carrollwood store is on the same highway, roughly 15–20 miles north.

Naval Station Mayport Beach Blvd is the only Cook Out in Northeast Florida and the nearest Florida store for Mayport sailors; Kingsland, GA, is close to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

If you are heading out after a late shift or a game, remember that late at night most Cook Outs serve through the drive-thru only, and opening-month lines at the Tampa Bay and Jacksonville stores were long.

First-timer tip: Order a Big Double “Cook Out Style” (chili, slaw, onions and mustard) on a tray with hushpuppies and cheese bites, then swap the drink for a milkshake. Cheerwine, the North Carolina cherry soda, is on the fountain at most stores.

Florida Food Scene

How Does Cook Out Compare to Florida Fast Food?

Cook Out competes on price, tray value and late hours. Florida already has deep fast-food roots, so the newcomer is up against some home-state names.

  • Burger King: Founded in Jacksonville in 1953 as Insta-Burger King and now based in Miami. A Cook Out tray usually gives you two sides and a drink for about the price of a single combo.
  • Checkers: The double drive-thru chain is headquartered in Tampa. Both are drive-thru focused; Cook Out adds 40+ milkshake flavors.
  • Whataburger: Also growing in Florida and a common comparison for late-night burgers. Cook Out’s char-grilled patties and hushpuppy and cheese bite sides set it apart.
  • Publix subs: The default Florida lunch, but grocery delis close at night; Cook Out keeps serving into the early morning.
