Quick Answer

What Kinds of Fries Does Cook Out Have?

Cook Out sells French fries in a regular size (347 calories) and a large size (694 calories), and fries are one of the sides you can pick with a Cookout Tray. Cook Out’s nutrition sheet also lists a separate item called Cook Out Fries (465 calories), and the menu has carried cheese fries, chili fries and chili cheese fries.

Fries are the default fried potato at every Cook Out, the side most people picture next to a Big Double and a milkshake. You can get them two ways: as one of the two sides in a Cookout Tray, which costs about $7.39 to $7.99 with an entree and a drink, or on their own in a regular or large order at the price on your store’s menu board.

  • Regular fries: 119.8 g, 347 calories, 17 g fat, 687 mg sodium, 45 g carbs.
  • Large fries: 238.1 g, 694 calories, 34 g fat, 1,374 mg sodium. That is exactly double the regular on calories and sodium.
  • Cook Out Fries: 195.8 g, 465 calories, 1,335 mg sodium, listed as its own row on Cook Out’s sheet without a description.
  • Cheese, chili and chili cheese fries: 443, 406 and 553 calories in older published data. These are not on Cook Out’s current nutrition sheet, so treat them as approximate.
  • Cajun fries: not on Cook Out’s nutrition sheet; some stores serve them, as explained below.

Fries are sold at the roughly 370 Cook Out restaurants in 11 states listed on Cook Out’s store locator in October 2026. Most stores open at about 10:30 AM and close around 3 AM Sunday through Thursday and 4 AM on Friday and Saturday, though hours vary by store; see the Cook Out hours guide.

Official Nutrition

How Many Calories Are in Cook Out Fries?

A regular order of Cook Out French fries has 347 calories and a large has 694 calories, according to Cook Out’s published nutrition sheet. The sheet also lists Cook Out Fries at 465 calories for a 195.8 g portion.

ItemServingCaloriesFatSat. fatCholesterolSodiumCarbsFiberSugarProtein
French fries, regular119.8 g34717 g3 g0 mg687 mg45 g4 g0 g4 g

Cook Out Fries (as listed)195.8 g46521 g4 g11 mg1,335 mg49 g5 g1 g7 g

A few things stand out. The large weighs 238.1 g, just under twice the regular’s 119.8 g, and every major value doubles: 347 to 694 calories, 687 to 1,374 mg of sodium, 17 to 34 g of fat. If you are deciding between one large and two regulars, the nutrition is the same either way.

Regular and large fries list 0 mg of cholesterol and 0 g of trans fat. Fiber is 4 g in a regular and 9 g in a large. Protein is low: 4 g in a regular order.

What are Cook Out Fries?

Cook Out’s nutrition sheet has a separate row named Cook Out Fries: 195.8 g, 465 calories, 21 g fat, 11 mg cholesterol and 1,335 mg sodium. The sheet gives no description, and the cholesterol and the sodium (nearly double the regular fries’ 687 mg in a portion only about 63% heavier) suggest something is added beyond plain fries, but Cook Out does not say what. Older menu listings used names like “Cook Out Fries with Cheese” for the topped versions, so ask at your store what it serves under that name before you count on these numbers.

Does a tray side of fries match the regular size?

Cook Out publishes separate tray-side portions for nuggets, onion rings, hushpuppies, Rounds and cheese bites, but for fries it lists only regular and large. Our calorie calculator and the tray math on this page therefore use the regular fries (347 calories) for a tray side of fries. If your store’s tray fries look smaller than a regular order, the real number will be a little lower.

Nutrition Math

How Much Sodium and Fat Is in Cook Out Fries?

A regular order of Cook Out fries supplies about 30% of the Daily Value for sodium and 22% for fat; a large order doubles that to about 60% of your day’s sodium. Carbohydrates are moderate and protein is low.

The table uses the FDA Daily Values printed on U.S. nutrition labels: 78 g fat, 20 g saturated fat, 300 mg cholesterol, 2,300 mg sodium, 275 g carbohydrate, 28 g fiber and 50 g protein.

* Older published data; see the next section.

  • Fat supplies about 44% of the calories in regular and large fries (153 of 347), and carbohydrate about 52% (180 of 347). That split is typical of deep-fried potatoes.
  • Sodium is the number to watch. Regular fries carry 198 mg of sodium per 100 calories; Cook Out Fries carry 287 mg, among the saltiest ratios of any Cook Out side.
  • Calorie density is about 2.9 calories per gram for regular and large fries, higher than onion rings (1.86) and about the same as nuggets (2.94).

For the rest of the menu, see the Cook Out nutrition guide.

Loaded Fries

What About Cheese Fries, Chili Fries and Chili Cheese Fries?

Cook Out has sold fries topped with cheese, chili or both, but they are not on the current nutrition sheet; older published data puts them at 443, 406 and 553 calories. Those figures come from an older dataset that used a smaller, different fry base, so they are approximate.

ItemServingCaloriesFatSat. fatCholesterolSodiumCarbsFiberSugarProtein
Cheese fries*142.9 g44322 g4 g11 mg900 mg53 g—1 g7 g
Chili fries*146.5 g40621 g6 g34 mg1,152 mg45 g—3 g12 g
Chili cheese fries*181.5 g55331 g9 g55 mg1,372 mg54 g—5 g14 g

* Older published data, not from Cook Out’s current nutrition sheet. Fiber was not given. Availability of topped fries varies by store, so check the menu board.

Because the older data was built on a lighter fry portion, these totals can look smaller than they should next to today’s official regular fries at 347 calories. Read them as a floor rather than an exact count.

Build chili fries from official numbers

If you want numbers you can trust, use two items that are on the current sheet: a regular fries (347 calories) and a side of chili (164 calories). Together they come to 511 calories, 20 g fat, 49 g carbs, 9 g protein and 1,604 mg of sodium, about 70% of the daily sodium value. On a tray you can pick fries and chili as your two sides and pour the chili over the fries yourself. Cook Out lists the side of chili at 98 g; its published macros add up to fewer calories than the 164 listed, so treat the chili row as approximate.

Chili is also the base of Cook Out Style toppings (chili, slaw, mustard and onions), so a Big Double or hot dog Cook Out Style with fries gives a similar flavor without topped fries.

Menu Check

Does Cook Out Have Cajun Fries?

Cajun fries are not on Cook Out’s official nutrition sheet or on Cook Out’s menu listing on SinglePlatform, which shows only regular and large French fries, but independent reviews show some stores serve them. Ask at your store, and expect no official nutrition numbers.

Two published reviews describe ordering Cajun fries at Cook Out: The Takeout’s September 2023 review, which paired them with hushpuppies and a shake, and Axios Tampa Bay’s July 2026 review of the area’s first Cook Out, which ordered them with a Big Double tray and called the fries “seasoned to perfection.” Neither is an official Cook Out source, and Cook Out does not publish a Cajun seasoning for fries, so availability likely depends on the store.

Where Cook Out definitely offers Cajun flavor is chicken:

  • Cajun Style char-grilled chicken sandwich: listed on Cook Out’s nutrition sheet at 377 calories. Cook Out’s SinglePlatform menu describes it with Cajun seasoning, Texas Pete, lettuce, tomato and mayo.
  • Cajun Chicken Wrap: 501 calories and 1,285 mg sodium on the nutrition sheet.

If your store does not have Cajun fries, a Cajun Style chicken tray with regular fries is the closest official order. The Cook Out secret menu guide covers other off-board requests.

Ordering Guide

How Do You Order Fries at Cook Out?

Order a Cookout Tray and name fries as one of your two sides, or ask for a regular or large order of fries on its own. The tray is the value play; a standalone order is for adding fries to a burger, hot dog or shake.

A Cookout Tray is one entree, two sides and a drink. At the drive-thru speaker the usual sequence is tray, entree, style, first side, second side, drink. A fry order sounds like: “Cookout Tray, Big Double Cook Out Style, fries and onion rings, regular Cheerwine.” For a bigger pile, ask whether your store will let you choose fries for both sides.

First-timer tip: Two tray sides of fries add up to about the same calories as one large order (347 + 347 = 694), so double fries on a tray gets you large-order volume without a separate purchase.
  • Cookout Tray (entree + 2 sides + drink): about $7.39–$7.99
  • Jr. Tray: from about $5.29
  • Regular or large fries on their own: priced by each store, posted on the menu board
  • Milkshake in place of the tray drink: extra charge that varies by store

Old menu listings online show regular fries for under a dollar, but those prices are years old and Cook Out stores set prices locally. Check your store’s board, and expect sales tax on top. The Cook Out tray menu explains every tray entree, and the sides menu lists every side.

Tips for better fries

  • Eat them first. Fries soften as they steam in a closed bag, so open the bag on the drive home.
  • Ask for no salt if you want fresh ones. Unsalted fries often have to come from a new batch; add salt yourself.
  • Order at busy times. Faster fryer turnover means fresher batches.
  • Keep delivery short. Fried sides suffer on long rides; see the Cook Out delivery guide.
Tray Builds

What Are the Best Cook Out Trays With Fries?

The lightest fry tray in this set is a char-grilled chicken sandwich with fries, nuggets and unsweet tea at 868 calories and 39 g of protein; the heaviest are the double-fries hamburger tray with a Coca-Cola at 1,253 calories and a BBQ sandwich with fries, hushpuppies and sweet tea at 1,251. Every total adds Cook Out’s official figures, using regular fries for the tray side.

Burger totals add the style toppings to the base burger as Cook Out lists them separately. Drinks are regular 16 oz fountain sizes. Sauces are not included.

What the math shows:

  • Fries are the heaviest common fried side. Choosing onion rings instead of fries for one side saves 219 calories; nuggets instead of fries saves 203 calories and adds 6 g of protein.
  • Sodium climbs fast. The DIY chili fries tray reaches 2,732 mg of sodium, above the full-day 2,300 mg value, mainly because the Cook Out Style hot dog (1,118 mg), the chili (917 mg) and the fries (687 mg) are all salty.
  • The drink is the easiest swap. A regular sweet tea adds 236 calories and a regular Coca-Cola 140; unsweet tea, Diet Coke and Coke Zero Sugar add none. See the drinks menu.

To try your own combination, use the Cook Out calorie calculator, which builds a tray the same way: one entree, two sides and a drink.

Side by Side

How Do Fries Compare With Other Cook Out Sides?

At 347 calories, regular fries are one of the heavier tray sides at Cook Out; only the side of slaw (405 as published) and the wrap sides come in higher among the common picks. Onion rings (128), nuggets (144), Cook Out Rounds (149) and cheese bites (150) all run less than half the calories.

Values are tray-side portions where Cook Out publishes them; fries, chili, corn dog, okra and slaw use the single portion on the sheet. Fried okra is not offered at every store. The side of slaw is shown as published; 405 calories is high for a coleslaw portion, so treat that row with caution.

  • Fries vs onion rings: 347 vs 128 calories and 687 vs 328 mg sodium. Rings are the lighter fried side by a wide margin. See the onion rings guide.
  • Fries vs hushpuppies: 347 vs 300 calories. Hushpuppies have more sugar (11 g vs 0 g) and about the same sodium. See the hush puppies guide.
  • Fries vs nuggets: nuggets have 144 calories and 10 g of protein against the fries’ 4 g. See the chicken nuggets guide.
  • Fries vs Cook Out Rounds: both are fried potato, but the Rounds tray side has 149 calories in 69.5 g, less than half the fries.
Chain Comparison

How Do Cook Out Fries Compare to McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A?

A regular Cook Out fries (347 calories) lands between a medium McDonald’s World Famous Fries (320) and a medium Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Fries (420), while a large Cook Out order (694) is bigger than either chain’s large. Only the numbers published on each chain’s official pages are shown.

McDonald’s product pages list calories only (230, 320 and 480), so the other columns are blank. Chick-fil-A’s medium waffle fries page lists 420 calories, 24 g fat, 45 g carbs and 5 g protein, and Chick-fil-A’s waffle fries nutrition page shows 240 mg of sodium for that same 420-calorie serving.

  • Carbs match, fat differs. Cook Out’s regular and Chick-fil-A’s medium both have 45 g of carbohydrate, but Chick-fil-A’s has 24 g of fat to Cook Out’s 17 g, which is why it is 73 calories higher.
  • Sodium is Cook Out’s weak spot. A regular Cook Out fries has 687 mg of sodium, nearly three times the 240 mg in a medium Chick-fil-A waffle fries.
  • The large is the big one. Cook Out’s large at 694 calories is 214 more than a McDonald’s large and 94 more than a Chick-fil-A large.

Chick-fil-A says its waffle fries are cooked in canola oil; Cook Out does not publish a cooking-oil statement on its nutrition sheet. The value structure also differs: at most chains fries come inside a combo, while at Cook Out fries are one of two sides in a tray that already includes an entree and a drink for about $7.39 to $7.99. For a broader matchup, see Cook Out vs McDonald’s.

Diet & Allergens

Are Cook Out Fries Vegan, Gluten-Free or Low-Carb?

Cook Out does not publish ingredients, allergens or a cooking-oil statement for its fries, so it makes no vegan or gluten-free claim. They are not low-carb: a regular order has 45 g of carbohydrate.

  • Vegan and vegetarian: the regular and large fries list 0 mg cholesterol, but that alone does not prove they are vegan, and fried sides usually share fryer oil. Cook Out Fries list 11 mg cholesterol, and the cheese and chili versions contain dairy or meat. See the vegan menu guide.
  • Gluten and wheat: fries are potatoes, but shared fryers with breaded items such as nuggets, onion rings and hushpuppies make cross-contact likely. Anyone with celiac disease should ask the manager and read the Cook Out allergen guide.
  • Low-carb and keto: 45 g of carbs in a regular and 89 g in a large rule fries out for keto. The nugget tray side has 7 g.
  • Sodium-conscious: 687 mg in a regular order is about 30% of the daily value before the entree. Asking for unsalted fries may lower it, but Cook Out publishes no figure for that.
  • Kids: a regular order is 347 calories, more than a full order of nuggets (240). Splitting one order is reasonable for small children.

Questions Answered

Cook Out Fries FAQs

Answers to the questions people ask most.

How many calories are in Cook Out fries?

Cook Out’s nutrition sheet lists regular French fries at 347 calories for a 119.8 g order and large fries at 694 calories for 238.1 g. A separate item called Cook Out Fries is 465 calories. Cook Out does not list a separate tray-side fries portion, so the regular figure is the best estimate for a tray side.

Does Cook Out have Cajun fries?

Cajun fries are not on Cook Out’s nutrition sheet or its SinglePlatform menu listing, which shows regular and large French fries. However, reviews from The Takeout (2023) and Axios Tampa Bay (July 2026) describe ordering Cajun fries, so some stores offer them. Ask at your store. Cook Out does officially sell a Cajun Style chicken sandwich and a Cajun Chicken Wrap.

Can you get fries as a side on a Cookout Tray?

Yes. Fries are one of the sides you can choose with a Cookout Tray, which includes an entree, two sides and a drink for about $7.39 to $7.99 depending on the store. Ask whether your store will let you pick fries for both sides; two regular portions equal the 694 calories of one large order.

How much sodium is in Cook Out fries?

A regular order has 687 mg of sodium, about 30% of the 2,300 mg Daily Value, and a large has 1,374 mg, about 60%. Cook Out Fries list 1,335 mg. That is nearly three times the 240 mg Chick-fil-A lists for a medium waffle fries.

How many calories are in Cook Out cheese fries and chili cheese fries?

They are not on Cook Out’s current nutrition sheet. Older published data lists cheese fries at about 443 calories, chili fries at 406 and chili cheese fries at 553, built on a smaller fry portion than today’s. Regular fries plus a side of chili, both official, total 511 calories and 1,604 mg of sodium.

Are Cook Out fries bigger than McDonald’s fries?

By calories, yes. A regular Cook Out order has 347 calories, slightly more than a medium McDonald’s World Famous Fries at 320, and a large Cook Out order has 694, compared with 480 for a McDonald’s large. McDonald’s product pages list calories only, so weight and sodium cannot be compared from them.

How much are fries at Cook Out?

Prices are set by each store. On a tray, fries are included in the tray price of about $7.39 to $7.99. A regular or large order on its own is priced on your store’s menu board. Old online listings show regular fries under a dollar, but those are years out of date.

Are Cook Out fries gluten-free or vegan?

Cook Out does not make either claim and does not publish ingredients or its fryer oil for the fries. Regular fries list 0 mg cholesterol, but fried sides usually share fryer oil with breaded items like nuggets and onion rings, so cross-contact is likely. Ask the store manager and check the allergen guide before ordering.
